Weighted decision matrix calculator
Compare three feasible options by multiplying each criterion score by its relative weight, then test whether reasonable changes alter the ranking.
What decision does this calculator support?
Use it after hard requirements have removed infeasible options. The result ranks the remaining choices under visible weights and scores, then tests whether changing the largest weight by ten points changes the winner.
The sensitivity result has a narrow meaning
It checks one high-impact assumption in both directions. It does not prove that the criteria, evidence, or scoring scales are correct.
| Criterion | Weight | Option A | Option B | Option C |
|---|---|---|---|---|
How the weighted score is calculated
For each criterion, the calculator multiplies an option's score by that criterion's share of the total weight. It then adds those products across all criteria. If the weights do not total 100, they are normalized so the relative emphasis stays the same. A result of 4.1 means only that the option performed better under the entered scales and weights.
Work a decision matrix example
Suppose three venues already meet hard capacity and accessibility requirements. Compare cost, travel time, schedule flexibility, and technical reliability. Define what scores from 1 to 5 mean before rating any venue. If the leading venue wins only because its unverified reliability score is high, test that score across a plausible range. The matrix has located the evidence that matters next.
Do not confuse a score with certainty
Filter out options that fail hard requirements before scoring. Cite the evidence behind each rating and vary the largest weight. If a small change reverses the ranking, the decision is sensitive. Gather better evidence instead of defending the first decimal. Do not use this tool to average legal, safety, or ethical requirements that should be treated as non-negotiable constraints.
